Parklands Foundation

Parklands FoundationLocated within iconic Sydney Olympic Park, home to Australia's greatest sporting venues used for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and surrounded by 425 hectares of Parklands, including 175 hectares of ecologically significant wetlands is the Parklands Foundation.

The Parklands Foundation provides GIS services to its parent organisation, Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA). As part of the service provision, the Parklands Foundation has choosen Cityworks as a solution to assist SOPA in the management of its Wetlands. SOPA is obliged to protect and manage the wetlands as legislated under the Sydney Olympic Park Authority Act 2001. Cityworks is the solution that SOPA and the Parklands Foundation will use to protect, maintain and enhance the Parklands as a means of promoting the recreational, historical, scientific, educational and cultural value of the Parklands as stated in the legislation.wetland and built assets

Situation
There are 175 hectares of Wetlands and associated assets. SOPA has a policy (Wetlands Operational Action Plan) that describes the key management objectives associated with the Wetlands. However to date this was achieved subjectively and with the use of Excel in the management of Works activities and Contractor management.

With most of this information already in the Parklands Foundation GIS, Cityworks was an obvious choice to then leverage this data as the Wetlands Asset Inventory and in doing so enable the Wetlands Operation Action Plan policy as the Works Maintenance database.

Vision
Cityworks will be used to manage the KPI's associated with the maintenance and preservation of the wetlands and also be used as an Incident Management System in responding to events that subject the Wetlands to risk. Cityworks will also be used to provide full KPI reporting on the various indicators documented in the Wetlands Operation Action Plan.

Solution
The gViz solution includes the development of an ESRI Geodatabase as the Asset Inventory for Wetlands associated assets. Data from the existing ESRI GIS will be migrated into the new geodatabase representing the the needs of the Wetlands Asset Inventory.

gViz will also provide both end user and administration training in the use of Cityworks and then work collaboratively with the Parklands Foundation and SOPA stakeholders in the configuration of the Works Maintenance database.

Once populated, the end user Cityworks software will be installed and final solution training provided.

Result
This vision will result in an enhanced appreciation of the GIS, from that of maintaining corporate data and providing location intelligence in the form of maps and associated web mapping applications, to now the greater valued GIS enabled business process of Asset Management.

All this is achieved using the ESRI GIS, rationalisation of data sets and greater value to the client. This is innovation, this is value, this is truly a GIS solution. All works maintenance activities associated with the wetlands and the setting of corporate asset budgets will now use the gViz GIS solution. This is spatially enabled government, this is what GIS can do for your organisation, beyond that of maintaining data and providing maps or web maps. GIS enabled business processes from end to end with gViz GIS Solutions.
